Description

Asaokenoke is a Japanese yokai monster believed to be appeared in Kamo village, Miyoshi, Awa(Tokushima prefecture).
This yokai is mentioned in an old book in Tokushima prefecture called "Ashuukijizatsuwa".

Asaokenoke is a hair as Shintai(spirit replacement object) placed in a oke bucket for Yatsuhime shrine in Kamo village.

When gods of shrine are not calm, this Shintai hair grows and splits, then it comes out of oke bucket and start attacking people.

According to a story in "Ashuukijizatsuwa", there were three thieves breaking in houses around this area.
One night, thieves stayed in the shrine to distribute what they robbed. The hair comes out of the bucket, splits into three and tie the thieves with enormous power.
Thieves could not move at all, and police found them tied up in the next morning.

There are many shrines which have hairs as their Shintai.
