Kaichigo

Kaichigo is a Japanese Yokai monster mentioned in a book "Hyakki Tsurezure Bukuro" by Sekien Toriyama in 1784. It is a yokai of Kaioke ornamental boxes.

Kaioke is a kind of ornamental box to put shells for kids(There was a play that matching shells that are painted). It is thought as a kind of Tsukumogami that Kaioke was no more useful when kids grown. Kaioke was also a tool that succeeded from mother to daughter. It wasn't unusual to keep the same tool succeeded from parent for over hundred years.
