In Obamine Mountain in Wakayama Prefecture, it is also believed that Ippon Datara appears on 20th December. So it is recommended not to go into the mountain on that day.
There's a theory that Ippon Datara in this area is belived to be Inosasaoh the demon god. It is the ghost of a giant wild bore which has sasa leeves growing on its back. After it's hunted, it became a berserk ghost and attacked people. So a priest sealed it, but it has to be released on every 20th December to keep the seal working forever. Therefore, 20th December is believed to be a day of bad luck.
