Description

Akaname is a Japanese Yokai monster that mentioned in "Zuga Hyakki Yakou" by Sekien Toriyama in 18th Century.
Akaname appears in a bath room and lick filth on bathtub, or bucket.

A horror story book in Edo era "Kokon Hyakumonogatari Hyoban" mentions a yokai called "Akaneburi", therfore Akaname is supposed to be based on this "Akaneburi".

According to the scientific knowledge at that time, organisms consume things around the place they were born. Like fish consumes water, lice appears in filth and eats filth. Therefore, Akaname appeared in such filth, so it eats filth.

Akaname doesn't hurt people, but people don't want it to appear in their house, thus people tried to keep the house clean.
Akaname gives people such helpful intention.

I understand Akaname eats the filth voluntarily, but I still feel bad for it.
